AveMix® XG 10 – The concept to overcome NSP fiber associated issues
In pig and poultry feed the use of fibrous feed ingredients, such as cereals or alternative by-products, is common in order to fulfill crude fiber requirements and to decrease feed costs. However, it also means incorporation of anti-nutritional factors due to the inclusion of insoluble and soluble non-starch polysaccharide (NSP) fibers. Monogastric animals do not produce enzymes capable of digesting NSP fibers, and this can result in significantly decreased performance as well as health issues.
Palital has developed AveMix® XG 10 which is a proven combination of high endo-1,4-beta-xylanase and endo-1,3(4)-beta-glucanase activities. AveMix® XG 10 has superior and flexible efficiency on both arabinoxylan and glucan NSP fibers. Further details on the mechanism and mode of action of AveMix® XG 10 can be read here.
AveMix® XG 10 has proven value in both pigs and poultry and can be applied ‘on-top’ of the feed or be used to enable feed reformulation. Palital has demonstrated the clear benefits of AveMix® XG 10 in numerous pig and poultry field and university trials.
In this article, insight is given into the findings in broiler and laying hen trials that were conducted at the University of Life Sciences in Poznan (Poland).
AveMix® XG 10 improves broiler growth performance
A 42 day broiler trial was performed that used a total of 160 birds, which were randomly allocated into two groups of 80: control and AveMix® XG 10. All birds received the same basal starter and grower diets, which were mainly composed of wheat, corn and soybean meal. The control group only received the basal diets. The AveMix® XG 10 group received the basal diets with supplemented ‘on-top’ the recommended dosage of AveMix® XG 10.
The incorporation of AveMix® XG 10 in the starter and grower broilers diets significantly improved the growth rate without increasing feed intake (Figure 1). This was because of a significant improvement in feed conversion ratio (Figure 1). As such, AveMix® XG 10 clearly enhances nutrient utilization in broilers by degrading the NSP fibers, resulting in improved performance.
Figure 1 – AveMix® XG 10 improves the growth rate and feed conversion ratio of broilers. Bars labelled with * were significantly different from the control group (P<0.05).
AveMix® XG 10 enhances laying performance
A 12 week laying hen trial was performed using 160 birds, which were randomly allocated into two groups of 80. All birds (19 weeks old) received the same basal diets, which were mainly composed of wheat, corn, rye and soybean meal. As previously, the control group only received the basal diets, whereas the AveMix® XG 10 group had supplemented ‘on-top’ the recommended dosage of AveMix® XG 10.
AveMix® XG 10 improved the laying rate, egg weight and feed conversion ratio relative to the control group (Figure 2). In this trial, the dietary soluble NSP fibers had an important water-binding capacity, which gave a sensation of fullness to the layers. Due to the supplementation of AveMix® XG 10, this issue was overcome as evidenced by the increased feed intake (Figure 2). Therefore, the AveMix® XG 10 supplemented birds had the combined benefits of increased feed utilization and feed intake, which resulted in a significant improvement in laying performance.

In conclusion, these trials clearly demonstrate that AveMix® XG 10 is an effective feed additive that overcomes the anti-nutritional issues associated with NSP fibers. The guaranteed high enzymatic activities of AveMix® XG 10 results in increased nutrient utilization and production performance. For more information on AveMix® XG 10, please contact us.
